I was present and onsite when Canyon Lake levels built up to the tidal wave of flood waters that rushed over the Canyon Lake Spillway with a 7 to 8 foot continuous wall of water that was more than a football field wide, which was the sheer force that carved out the Canyon Lake Gorge overnight. The force of the water blasting over the Spillway didn't stop there... it also wiped out homes, businesses and bridges for miles down the Guadalupe River. In fact, the section of Guadalupe River below Canyon Lake Dam was closed to Recreation for almost 1 year in the aftermath of the 2002 flood for cleanup of dangerous debris. River Sports Tubes was located within the restricted cleanup area, so we were closed during the cleanup period. The Canyon Lake Gorge is truly a must see for anyone visiting the Canyon Lake area simply because it is so unique and interesting. Now that the Guadalupe River is free of debris and safe for water recreation, another must see and do is Guadalupe River tubing. Cheers, Keith
